2024 marks the 25th anniversary of Liverpool Shanghai sister city relationship. In a recent 2024 Chinese New Year video message from A message from General Director of Shanghai Foreign Affairs Office to Liverpool, Mr. Kong welcomes friends in the UK to visit and invest in Shanghai.

He also revealed several facts about Shanghai, for example, Shanghai has the largest number of cafes (more than 8,500); It has the largest expat community in the Chinese mainland; It has a diversified & inclusive population; and it strives to build itself into 5 international centres: international economic centre; international financial centre; international trade centre; international shipping centre; and international sci-tech innovation centre.

Just before the Chinese New Year, Shanghai government also launched a new website, International Services Shanghai, which aims to act as a personal guide to people who visit there; It offers a wide range of resources, including detailed policies, news updates, and useful tips specifically designed for international travellers and expats in Shanghai who are seeking information on business, employment, travel, education, and more.
