Liverpool China Partnership hosted Mid-Autumn Reception 2022 at Liverpool Confucius InstituteIssuing time:2022-10-14 20:54 On 5 October 2022, Liverpool China Partnership members, partners, stakeholders, and friends were invited to come together at the Mid-Autumn reception 2022 at Liverpool Confucius Institute, celebrating this year's Chinese Mid-Autumn occasion as well as bringing conversations and sharing thoughts, experiences and positive outlooks on UK-China relations. Tom Duke, Deputy HM Trade Commissioner to China from Department for International Trade (DIT) also joined the reception as LCP's guest who chatted to our members and guests on a number of topics. He was invited to visit Liverpool and this reception was organised by us as part of his visit. In a Q&A session hosted by LCP President Gary Millar FJMU, Tom talked about the current UK government business support, the strong long-term UK-China partnership, InvestmentZones in the UK, the importance of organisations like the Liverpool China Partnership and how we all continue to support British Sino relations, business matchmaking, Liverpool's profile in the UK-China relations, its Freeport, etc. Department for International Trade is UK's government department that helps businesses export, drives investment, negotiates market access, and champions freetrade. The services LCP provide complement the activities of DIT including supporting civic, cultural and educational engagement. It was an engaging business event with a cultural element - as the reception guests celebrated China's second biggest festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, which normally takes place every September according to the Chinese Lunar calendar, Confucius Institute Liverpool prepared traditional mooncakes. One of LCP Partnership Directors, Xiaofeng Wu from University of Liverpool introduced to all what the Festival is about and cut the mooncakes up to share with all guests onsite. At the reception, LCP also accounced that there will be an upcoming Chinese Kun Opera Culture Exhibition this year at Liverpool Confucius Institute, co-organised by LCP and Suzhou Foreign Affairs Office, and supported by Liverpool Confucius Institute and Liverpool Chinese Students and Scholars Association. Kun Opera originated in Suzhou, China. This exhibition is one of the projects that we organise in partnership with Suzhou FAO and as a result of our long-term friendship, and it aims to bring Chinese classic culture to the local audience in the UK. At the reception, a video clip produced by Suzhou Kunqu Opera Theatre of the act 'The Interruption of a Dream' from #ThePeonyPavilion was showcased. This is the most well-known Kun Opera play, written by Chinese playwright Tang Xianzu, who lived in the same era as Shakespeare. They died in the same year, and therefore Tang Xianzu was widely researched and studied by scholars. |
